247 Years of the Expulsion of the Jesuits is Celebrated

San Luis de la Paz, Gto. Saturday, August 23, 2014. On June 25, we celebrated 247 years of the decree of expulsion of the Jesuits from New Spain. The episode, which happened in 1767, made the town of San Luis de la Paz to protest and rise in arms. It was one of the few places in the country where this occurred. The mutiny was appeased by the colonial army, and the punishment to those who participated was severe. Some were exiled and others condemned to the death penalty. One of those executed was a woman, Ana Maria Guatemala, of which there is a picture in the Raices del Terruno Gallery, a permanent exhibition at the Ludovicense Cultural Center. In 2007, a staging of the event was held in the San Luis Rey Parish. We share pictures of the play here with you.
